Rumored Marvel Pilot For Netflix Would Bring Groundbreaking Character Into The Fold

A couple of weeks ago, I shared with you that Netflix honcho Ted Sarandos wanted to give fans MORE MARVEL GOODNESS, AND AT A FASTER PACE. Now comes word that Marvel has filmed not one, not two, not three, but FOUR pilots for potential new Netflix series. According to Bleeding Cool, they’ve got the scoop on what one of the rumored pilots is:

WHITE TIGER

The site claims that Marvel has wrapped a short pilot for WHITE TIGER, with the hope that Netflix will pick it up for the streaming network. While there have been different versions of White Tiger before, this one is said to be based on the Angela Del Toro incarnation of the character. Considering the politically charged times we live in, this version would be noteworthy because it would be the first Marvel superhero of the modern live-action era that is hispanic and a woman.

Marvel describes the character on their site this way:

“Angela Del Toro is the heir to a heroic legacy that began with the Jade Tiger, a long-lost enchanted statue from the fabled kingdom of K’un-Lun. Broken into pieces, the statue’s paws and head resurfaced in America, where the Sons of the Tiger wore them as amulets that enhanced their martial arts prowess. When the Sons disbanded, their discarded amulets were discovered by Angela’s uncle, the young Hector Ayala, who transformed into the superhuman White Tiger through their power.”

The series would reportedly take place in the Bronx, with Del Toro taking on the White Tiger mantle vacated by her uncle. It would give the budding Netflix Marvel Universe another part of New Yorkto explore, and a gritty heroine that would split the difference between Jessica Jones and Iron Fist.

What do you think of this rumor? Would you like a series based on WHITE TIGER? What other Marvel properties are you hopeful for with these three other unnamed pilots floating around? Discuss.
