It wasn’t that long ago that we were graced with the first two minute-long teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the latest entry in the long-running Star Wars saga. While the teaser had plenty of great imagery, the actual details it revealed in terms of plot and premise were minimal. I would normally say we should expect more in the upcoming trailers, but if the marketing from Star Wars: The Force Awakens proved anything, it’s that they are at their best when conveying a tone, not a plot.
But when CAN we expect another trailer for The Last Jedi? Thanks to a recent listing from the British Board of Film Classification, it sounds like that time may already be approaching (via Star Wars News Net). While it’s impossible to pin down exactly when this trailer will hit, they usually only get listed when they’re approaching their release.
The main interesting takeaway here is that this new trailer will actually clock in at one minute and 31 seconds — a good 30 or so seconds shorter than the initial teaser. Even though Star Wars is a franchise that excels at conveying a feeling more than a plot, even I have to admit this is a strange move. What can they possibly convey in that time that the first one didn’t already do? Granted, the length of a trailer isn’t everything, but when we’ve seen so little of the film, we like to feel like we’re at least getting a taste of what to expect. As much as I enjoyed that last teaser, it was barely enough to whet our appetite. We’ll have to wait and see how this holds up.
If we were to guess when this debuts, D23 would be the natural bet (July 14-16). However, that may very well be a Han Solo-heavy event, and as such, it could premiere either earlier or later, depending on how Disney is feeling.
When do you think the trailer will premiere, and are you worried about it being so short? Let us know in the comments down below!
