Jesse Eisenberg Said The Delay In Zombieland Films Was Due To Deadpool

Zombieland was sort of a breath of fresh air to a genre that if not careful can become repetitive and dare I say it, boring. Released a year before AMC’s The Walking Dead, the film was a fun take on the undead genre and the fantastic cast didn’t hurt at all.

Now, roughly a decade since the first film came out and we’re all set for the long-awaited sequel. Cast member Jesse Eisenberg blames the delay in the films on the Merc with the Mouth, yes, the one otherwise known as Deadpool. While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Eisenberg said that the cast was waiting for a script from Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who also co-wrote Deadpool. You can checkout what he had to say below.

“We we trying to do the movie right after the first one because the first one was so popular and then we just waited for the best script. In the meantime, the two writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, did Deadpool and then we were waiting for them to finish that so they can write this. And we were all waiting, me, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, we’re all waiting for the best script and it finally came in.”

While I did enjoy Zombieland, I have no problem waiting for a sequel, especially if the wait was due to Deadpool being put on the big screen. While I don’t enjoy the genre as a whole very much, I thought Zombieland was something fresh, and though I might not make it to the theater for this one, I will check it out when it comes to home platforms.

Zombieland: Double Tap hits theaters October 18.
