A Conversation With Filmmaker Thomas Keith About His Documentary Bullied [Exclusive Interview]

People of all ages are victims of various kinds of bullying every day, especially kids in school. This could happen for a variety of reasons. These can include but are not limited to physical appearance, race/ethnicity, gender, disability, religion, or sexual orientation. While some people could comment that some kids should grow a thicker skin, the effects of bullying can have a lasting effect on a child’s education.

Studies were done on the effects of bullying by the Centers for Disease Control in 2019. They state that students that are victims have a higher risk for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement, and dropping out. Also, they have an increased risk for suicide-related behavior. Bullying has a negative impact on how students see themselves, their friendships, physical health, and school work.

Providing us with information about some of the programs that are being implemented at schools to prevent it from happening.

Bullied

Here is the synopsis for Bullied.

The film is a work that traces bullying and the effects of it. But also the methods and programs that have proven efficacious in reducing it in schools. From those people who live with the scars of having been bullied to those families who now grieve the loss of their child to suicide in the wake of brutal acts of bullying. The film examines the reasons why people do this and the fallout that occurs from that.

With the assistance of scholars from around the nation, this film takes the viewer on a journey that starts with loss and grief and travels to the destination of hope and overcoming fear.
