On a Very Special Episode……

WandaVision Episode 5

The title of this week’s episode hints at the old guest star routine. You remember the shows where the door would ring and some former character or guest star would appear. Well, this is of course exactly the point of WandaVision Episode 5, because that guest star is Wanda’s brother. Except, we all know it’s not, instead it was the former X-Men version of Pietro, played by Evans Peter.

Peter’s inclusion in WandaVision was rumored way, way back during filming for the first time. Then as we got closer to this week, there was some more substantial leaks showing Peter in character. There was also some doctored images of packaging which tried to prove Peter was playing Mephisto, those were proved fake in the end. Ultimately though, I have to commend Marvel on doing such a bang up job of concealing Peters involvement. Ok, maybe not, this one has seemed solid for a long time.

WandaVision Episode 5

So what does Peter Maximoff turning up as Pietro Maximoff do for the story? Vision should know that’s not Pietro but we also know Vis cannot remember anything prior to Westview. Therefore there is no reason for Vis to assume this is not Wanda’s real brother. Did Wanda’s subconscious mind conjure up Pietro. Did the lack of current body cause Wanda to rip Peter from the X-Men Universe through to the MCU prime?

Or is it possible that someone else, besides Wanda wants this illusion to carry on a little longer? So to distract both Wanda and Vision, this puppet master pulls in a replacement Pietro that he/she hopes will do the job. If next week is the supposed Halloween episode, and Peters is likely in it, one could say the distraction worked?

Alternatives

WandaVision Episode 5

Look, despite some fake rumors, Peters playing Mephisto, who is then simulating Peter Maximoff is still possible. However, this also leaves is with many other potential solutions and they cannot all be correct? If you are Mephisto and could appear to be anyone, why not Aaron Taylor-Johnson? Ok, there may be real world reasons that Taylor-Johnson didn’t want to come back, but that doesn’t explain the Multiverse very well. We already know that WandaVision will be the beginning of a Multiverse trilogy that will carry on with Spider-Man 3 and finish in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So has the Multiverse just begun? Is there someone influencing Wanda who wants to break down the barriers to other Universe, is the Multiverse (rift?) the endgame for someone?

I personally think Matthew McConaughey could show up as what the real villain looks like, whether that be Mephisto or someone else. I know, maybe that’s right out the blue, but McConaughey was rumored as being looked at for the villain of Doctor Strange 2 back some time ago. Recently I’ve heard this name crop up a few times, sortalike an inside thing almost it felt to me. So whilst I may be completely out of line with this, I reckon there is a main villain and whoever they are McConaughey is playing them. A bold claim and I might looks silly in a few weeks’ time.

The Real Villain

WandaVision Episode 5

There was a line from Wanda where she claimed to not fully understand how she got here in the first place. She also claims to not be controlling everyone. Even Norm didn’t say Wanda was in his head, he merely said ‘she’ was in his head. Who could that be? Well either Agnes or Dottie could still be Agatha Harkness and the one really responsible for suppressing the townsfolk. However, I am guessing Wanda has more power than any of them, and it’s her power they need to make this reality changing possible in the first place. Wanda gets her powers from the Mind Stone, and yet her abilities have also seemed to match the Reality stone far more. This week though, we found out that wat happens in Westview is not merely an illusion, it is reality warped into what Wanda wants to see. However I think we are being shown Wanda becoming a villain, because there is someone else behind all this.

Writing 101, you want Wanda to be a full villain, you either reveal that fact extremely early, or extremely late. Revealing Wanda as the villain in the middle of the show instead, seems like misdirection to me. And what is up with Acting Director Hayward, does anyone else thing he’s a bit too gun happy and not revealing everything he knows?

The Final Word

So Evan Peters is Quicksilver again, er, Peter, I mean Pietro again, or for the first time. Is Evan Peters the Luke Skywalker moment WandaVision star Liz Olen was talking about? I have to assume not, that there is far more to come. Next week as said appears to e the Halloween episode, but after that who knows? We have heard rumblings that the final three episodes are basically an MCU movie, but right now we cannot say for certain how that translates to this series.

Put it this way, with four episodes left, do you really think we have seen all the surprises we are going to on WandaVision? I think not.

What did you think of WandaVision Episode 5. What about Evan Peters showing up as some version of Pietro? Is Wanda or someone else the big bad? Leave any thoughts you have below.
