A Cruel Intentions Reboot Series Is On The Way With IMDb TV

I loved the movie, Cruel Intentions, growing up. I obviously didn’t watch it when it came out in theaters, but I did watch it many times. This movie was one of the few R rated movies I secretly watched as a kid. I never watched the second and third movies and it’s clear I wasn’t missing much based on reviews. IMDb TV, the Amazon-owned streaming service, is creating a reboot of the 1999 Cruel Intentions as a series and I’m not sure how I feel about it.

Cruel Intentions reboot series coming soon

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe starred as the heartless step siblings in the 1999 movie. Well, Sebastian eventually got a heart. Gellar reprised her role as Kathryn in the 2016 Cruel Intentions series reboot, but it didn’t get picked up. This new reboot series will be set in Washington, D.C. and the writers are Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher. Also, Neal H. Moritz, who was the producer for Cruel Intentions 1999, will be an executive producer with Pavun Shetty, Monica Bacardi, Andrea Ievolino, and Bruce Mellon.

What the series will be about:

Two ruthless step siblings will do anything to stay on top. In this case, of the Greek life hierarchy at an elite Washington, D.C. college. After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system, they’ll do whatever’s necessary to preserve their power and reputations — even seduce the daughter of the Vice President of the United States.

Goodman and Fisher wrote and executive produced the reboot series, I Know What You Did Last Summer, for Amazon and I’m not sure about this series either. I don’t think it looks bad. It’s just that I feel like I’m not the target audience and that’s okay. I enjoyed the 1997 movie and I don’t feel like I need this, but I hope people enjoy both reboots.
