A Disney Dad’s Advice Before Going On The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser

Star Wars

When Disney announced that they would be opening a Star Wars-themed hotel fans have been waiting for reservations to open.  The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser will be an experience that no other hotel or park has ever attempted before. The one-of-a-kind experience and hotel will take you to a galaxy far far away. It will continue the Disney Parks mission of creating new immersive experiences for park guests. While detailed information about the themed hotel has not been shared, some information that has been released gives future guests an idea of what they will experience.

As an Annual Passholder and avid Star Wars fan this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.  For the rest of my family that loves Disney but not Star Wars fans this is going to be a harder sell. Below are some of the topics I have discussed with my family as we look at our options for future trips.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will invite guests aboard the Halcyon, a starcruiser known throughout the galaxy for its impeccable service and exotic destinations. When they arrive on board, guests will step into the ship’s main deck Atrium to begin their journey through a galaxy far, far away. (Disney/Lucasfilm)

You Won’t Be Able To Leave The Ship

This information has been common knowledge for some time now but some guests have to really think about this before booking.  Disney Parks wants this to be a one-of-a-kind experience so just like being on a cruise, you will not be able to leave the Galactic Starcruiser.  It has not been said how exactly strict this rule will be, for example, what if a family runs out of diapers or needs more formula will they allow a parent to go run to the market to get more? Besides taking an excursion to Galaxy’s Edge at some point you will inside a building for around 72 hours.  If you are claustrophobic or have issues being inside for an extended period of time this might not be the trip for you. From early artwork designs, it looks like the rooms won’t have views of the outside and the overall size of the building is relatively small.  This is something to think about if you have young children who may experience sensory overload or need more of an outdoor experience.

Your Itinerary Will Be Scheduled For You

As part of your experience, you will get exclusive access to Black Spire Outpost which will include riding Smugglers Run and Rise Of The Resistance.  While on the Starcruiser guest will be invited to the bridge of the Halcyon to demonstrate navigation and defense skills with a possibility to pilot the ship. Guest will also be able to have lightsaber training and take part in crew meetings.  While this sounds amazing for a Star Wars fan like me, families that just like to lounge around and go at their own pace may not enjoy the fast-paced experience.

You Will Be Immersed In The Star Wars Universe

For a Star Wars fan, this will be the ultimate dream come true but for a casual fan maybe not so much.  Walking around Galaxy’s Edge you can tell which park guests are Star Wars fans and which ones are just there for casual fun.  For a casual fan or someone not very knowledgeable in Star Wars asking them to spend over 72 hours committed to Star Wars is a lot.  I am a die-hard Star Wars fan so spending 3 days in this environment will be special for me, but my wife who just knows the basics of Star Wars will be a tough sell to stay on the Galactic Cruiser.  More than likely my trip to the Galactic Starcruiser will either be solo or with my oldest daughter who enjoys Star Wars.

Food Will Be Unique To The Experience

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge has a unique lineup of food offerings that represents food that you would likely find in the Star Wars Universe.  Since the Galactic Starcruiser is an immersive Star Wars experience that means the food served will be similar to what you can find in Galaxy’s Edge.  For a lot of the Disney Foodies, the food served in Galaxy’s Edge ranks on the low end. Guests will head to the Crown of Corellia Dining Room to get their breakfast, lunch, and then a “lavish multicourse menu of both otherworldly and familiar origins” for dinner. Although I expect the food on the Galactic Starcruiser will be different and possibly better the concern that guests will have to consider kid options and allergy-friendly options.  Overall, Disney does a great job of having multiple allergy-friendly options at its restaurants and is always willing to accommodate items for the guests. For families that have food restrictions while traveling this will be something to consider since you won’t be able to leave the ship during the stay.

It Won’t Be Cheap

This is nothing new for Disney World but in regards to an experience, some experts have suggested that staying on the Galactic Starcruiser could cost around $1,200-$1,400/per person. Even if the price is slightly less than those predictions that is a big expense for 2 nights at Disney.  While the experience will be all-inclusive and include a night in Galaxy’s Edge this will not include any merchandise to purchase or adult beverages.

My advice to families interested in staying on the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser would be to really discuss with your party how bad do they really want to do this experience.  If your family are die-hard Star Wars fans then this will be an easy decision, but if only one or a part of your family/party likes Star Wars then maybe this might not be the experience for you. If you have any questions or advice please leave them in the comments below. You can find more information about the Galactic Starcruiser on Disney’s website.
