A Haunting in Venice Featurette Reveals Film Loosely Based on Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Novel With Re-imagined Story and Characters

A Haunting in Venice

Master mystery storyteller Agatha Christie is one of the most known mystery writers in history. With numerous books adapted on screen, her novel with famed detective Hercule Poirot in “Hallowe’en” may be tough to crack in a screen adaptation—until now with A Haunting in Venice.

Loosely based on the Hallowe’en novel, A Haunting in Venice is a re-telling of the mystery story of a murder at a Halloween party, in which Hercule Poirot must uncover the murderer. With a new city from the novel, the film introduces familiar characters and new suspects to throw off audiences viewing the film.

Michael Green wrote the adapted screenplay with Kenneth Branagh at the helm.

The ensemble cast includes Branagh as Hercule Poirot with Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio, and Michelle Yeoh.

Here is the description of the film:

A Haunting in Venice is set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve and is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

The film follows previous blockbuster films with 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express and last year’s Death on the Nile.
