A Quiet Place 2 Begins Production

A Quiet Place 2 has moved into production. The sequel to the grab-you-by-the-seat-of-your-pants monster movie will hit theaters on May 15, 2020. That’s less than a year away and we will see the blind aliens return. They were alien, right?

Yeah, writer-director John Krasinski confirmed so back in 2018 when he commented:

“They are absolutely aliens. They’re from another planet. Where I developed the idea of them and what I wanted them to look like was most alien movies are about takeovers, agendas, they’re a thinking alien creature, and for me this idea of a predator, this idea of a parasite, this idea of something that is introduced into an ecosystem.”

So yeah, aliens. It’ll be interesting to see the sequel as it is set to star Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds. Joining the cast are The Dark Knight’s Cillian Murphy and Child’s Play’s Brian Tyree Henry.

I think the whole mythology behind the movies will turn into a story about love and vulnerability. Maybe if those aliens opened their carapaces a bit more they could let some love in and have come in peace, instead of on a meteor of death. Whereas the original film began on day 89 of the invasion, the sequel is supposed to clear up some of the alien’s mysterious backstory.

Newcomer Bryan Tyree Henry commented on the sequel saying:

“I think that we’re also going to get a few answers to the origin of where and how this whole thing happened. I think that people want to know that. But I think you’re just going to see another side of it…more of humanity that survived this thing in this next story.”

Sounds interesting to me. I just hope the backstory is a lot more interesting than that other franchise’s alien hunter from space that deflated franchise expectations by revealing the aliens just liked to drink human spine juice. I’m looking at you Predator. What do you hope to see in the sequel to A Quiet Place?
