About That (Failed) Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer Drop Scoop

I wanted to take a moment to address the previous scoop we had last week regarding The Mandalorian Season 2 trailer, which we reported would hit either August 20 or August 22.

As you can tell by this point, the trailer for The Mandalorian did not drop as we reported this past Thursday. Nor did it drop on Saturday. Needless to say, this disappointed a good number of our readers and listeners, and for that, we apologize. While we do know for a fact that the trailer was set to drop last week, things obviously changed, and at the end of the day, we were wrong. It is what it is on that front.

When it comes to trailers, there does seem to be a misconception that studios edit them and lock down a date weeks or even months in advance. I’d like to let you know that that isn’t how it works. The marketing plans in the film industry change on a daily basis based on the current climate.

And, let me just say that Warner Bros. seemed to have a pretty solid grasp on said climate at the end of last week. Given all the traction DC had with their FanDome event, I think Disney+ would have been fools to go through with their original plans — but, that’s just me. Now, to many of you, that may seem like a cop-out, and I can’t blame you for thinking that. This may sound like an excuse, but it’s more of an explanation for what happened. Even Adam Frazier at /Film stated as such yesterday.

At the end of the day, there is an undeniable reality in all this: the trailer didn’t drop. So ultimately, we were wrong. We were wrong and we apologize for misleading. Between our secondary sources and other scoopers confirming the release date for Thursday on a Wednesday evening, it seemed like as close as we could get to the actual day without it being on the day. So we ran with it. Things changed, and we took a hit in the chin for it.

That being said, we maintain this was a result of plans changing, not incorrect information. As the situation unfolded, we got more information about its delay, though there was still the slightest possibility it could have aired. But, regardless of changing plans, we were ultimately wrong, and we fully acknowledge it.

Going forward, we will do our best to find the truth and work for your trust. Obviously, you are under no obligation to believe anything we put to print, but over time, we hope to gain your trust not only by having a solid track record, but by owning up to our failures. In this business, you are bound to get it wrong. In those cases, I will make sure we own up to those failures and work to do better going forward.

For the sake of transparency, below you can see the track record of our previous posts regarding The Mandalorian Season 2 trailer scoop so you can track our reporting. The only thing altered are the subheadings, which feature the original articles’ original publication dates, for clarity.

Below “Scoop Confirmation” Article Published August 19, 2020

Back on August 5, we broke the news that The Mandalorian Season 2 trailer would be hitting soon. More specifically during the NBA playoffs. At the time, we pegged the trailer either during August 21 or August 22. Earlier this week, we rounded back with our source, who modified the date to either August 20 or August 22. More specifically either during the Trail Blazers/ Lakers game on the 20th or the Lakers vs Trailer Blazers game on the 22nd.

Since then, we’ve had our ear to the ground for some kind of confirmation of which day it would be. As expected, we have yet to get an official confirmation from Lucasfilm or Disney about this, but there are some other scoopers out there who are pointing to August 20 (tomorrow) being the day when The Mandalorian drops.

Our friends over at Kessel Run Transmissions recently got in touch with us to confirm they’re hearing tomorrow as the trailer drop date. The duo then took to Twitter with more cryptic responses. But the implications were clear.

MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad also tweeted out a .gif of the Child with little context. However, based on the news circling around, I’ll take it as at least a mild confirmation.

However, the most direct public confirmation from another scooper came from YouTuber Grace Randolph. She took to Twitter after following up with sources of her own regarding The Mandalorian Season 2 trailer.

“Okay, checked with my sources and here’s some trailer tea – which Baby Yoda is sipping down below!” she wrote. “#TheMandalorian Season 2 trailer is indeed tomorrow night during the NBA game!”

Again, this has yet to be officially confirmed, but all signs do seem to be pointing to this being the case. So, NBA-lovers. Now is your time to be doubly pumped about an upcoming game. And NBA-haters, at the very least, you’ll know around when to stick close to your computers. Tomorrow at 9 pm ET. Somewhere within that game, we can expect some kind of teaser or trailer for The Mandalorian Season 2. Now all we have to do is wait.

This is the way.

Original Scoop Article Published August 5, 2020

The Mandalorian Season 2 trailer is coming soon! It seemed like there was going to be big news at yesterday’s Disney’s 3rd Quarter shareholders call but that didn’t happen.  With the pandemic having a major financial impact on the company it would’ve made sense to drop some big news besides Mulan coming to Disney+.  Although there was no trailer or shocking Star Wars announcement, we did get confirmation that The Mandalorian Season 2 is still scheduled for release this fall on Disney+.  With some wondering when we would get some more Star Wars news or a trailer it seems that we here at LRM have a better idea of when we will see something.

According to our source, the trailer for the second season of The Mandalorian will drop during the first round of the NBA playoffs. The date that they are looking at is either August 21st or August 22nd.  Those dates are not by accident either. Remember that Star Wars Celebration was scheduled during that same weekend before it was canceled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Star Wars trailers and sports seem to go hand in hand with multiple movie trailers debuting during Monday Night Football as well as NBA Finals games. The NBA has already resumed play at the Disneyworld Sports Complex in Orlando. The NBA playoffs are expected to begin August 17th barring any stoppage because of the pandemic.

Let’s not forget too that DC has scheduled their own online convention for the same weekend that Star Wars Celebration was scheduled to take place. We all know that in previous years Disney has always dropped something big prior to Warner Bros big announcements. Even though there might be a pandemic going on don’t bet that the battle between Disney and Warner Bros is going to stop.

What do you all think about this news? Are you all ready for season 2 of The Mandalorian?
