Fans feared that ABC/Marvels Agents of SHIELD would finish after season 5 and be cancelled following decreasing viewing figures. But we recently found out that ABC has renewed Agents of SHIELD for a shorter 13 episode Season 6.

Now courtesy of ABC President of Entertainment Channing Dungey, speaking during the network’s upfront presentation, we hear the 13 episode Season 6 will premiere in summer 2019. Agents of SHIELD normally begins in the fall, meaning fans will have to wait a little longer for Season 6 than they are accustomed to.
We also know that this may not be the final Season of the Marvel show. Here’s what Dungey said as reported by Deadline
“I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet. We don’t plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing.
By putting it on the summer we feel we can super-serve the show’s audience and possibly have it on the air longer.”
I’m not sure changing the time of year the show airs is going to benefit it much. The problem Agents of SHIELD has always had in my opinion, was too much filler to spread out over a full season. It also suffered incredibly by beginning quite poorly in Season 1, turning away many MCU fans at the start. Perhaps a more focused story spread out over only 13 episodes will allow the show to scale new heights?
