Ahmed Best Debunks Jar Jar In The Obi-Wan Show Rumor – Thank The Maker

Remember back in January, there was a rumor we would see Jar Jar in the Obi-Wan show? Well, it looks like that was either untrue, or Ahmed Best knows nothing about it. Read on for more details.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that the character of Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars was just a mistake. There are very few characters in Star Wars as disliked as Jar Jar is, or was. Would anyone reading this, if you had the chance to go back in time and remake The Phantom Menace, actually keep Jar Jar the same? I dare say there will be some Jar Jar fans lout there, but not many. The character of Jar Jar will never be liked by most fans who were adults when The Phantom Menace came out.

I, therefore, found it curious when rumor began that Jar Jar would make an appearance in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. The rumor came initially from MSW who do have a strong hit rate with Star Wars scoops. However, I remember when LRM‘s Seth McDonald covered the initial story, being very against the idea. Though, some of our readers thought it might actually be a cool idea. I guess the thought was that maybe Jar Jar’s character could be somewhat salvaged with fans? I personally don’t see what you can do with that character that isn’t going to be irritating as heck to watch on screen.

Thankfully it seems as though this rumor was unfounded. Ahmed Best, who had a tough time in his life after playing Jar Jar, recently did an online interview with Jamie Stangroom. You can catch that full interview in the source section below, where Best gets into all things Jar Jar. However, there is one point (around 19:05) where Best is asked specifically about those Obi-Wan rumors specifically.  As far as Best is concerned there are no plans for Jar Jar, unless he is not involved. Best has not been asked about appearing, or knows anything about an Obi-Wan cameo. However, the actor does go on to say that it’s possible for Lucasfilm to use the character without involving him. I do think that sounds even more unlikely though, don’t you?

Jar Jar in the Obi-Wan show

Star Wars needs to move on, they shouldn’t be trying to ‘fix’ the prequels. The prequels will never be well-made movies, no matter how hard we wish they were. Bringing back the worst character in those prequels is just a very bad idea as far as I am concerned. There is an opportunity to have this Obi-Wan show be mature, and more tonally like The Mandalorian. To have Jar Jar, even in one episode would destroy that for me, just reminding me of the pain. Time to move on, from the ghastly prequels, from the awful sequels, and from the character of Jar Jar Binks. No offense, Ahmed Best, you played the character George Lucas wanted you to play, but I’ve had enough of Jar Jar for a lifetime.
