Alan Ng Talks About Bringing The Action Silhouettes In Expend4bles | Exclusive

In The Expendables fans the action scenes are part of the highlight. This time, for Expend4bles Alan Ng brings the action silhouettes.

The Synopsis

A new generation of stars join the world’s top action stars for an adrenaline-fueled adventure in Expend4bles. Reuniting as the team of elite mercenaries, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Sylvester Stallone are joined for the first time by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia. Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give “new blood” a whole new meaning.

Besides Alan Ng being a stunt coordinator he is also an action actor and director. During his 25 years of experience he was part of Ka Lok Stunt team and now part of Jackie Chans. Forbidden Kingdom, The Karate Kid, Dragon Blade, Golden Job and Hidden Strike are only a few of the films with Ng’s work. I was able to have correspondence with Ng to ask a few questions about his work in Expend4bles and below is what he had to share.

Nancy Tapia: Congratulations on being a part of the Expendable franchise! It must be an honor to be asked to be a part of the most entertaining part of the film as the stunt coordinator! Making the impossible seem to flow so smoothly. How do you work that charm?

Alan Ng: Thank you! Yes, it was a great honor to be asked to be a part of expendables. Making everything flow smoothly all comes down to communication and trust with the director and the cast. It made my job easier having such a talented and experienced cast.

Nancy Tapia:  Are you a fan of the franchise? If so, what is it that you like about it?

Alan Ng: Yes, I’m a big fan of the franchise. I really like that it has all the action stars that I’ve grown up watching together in one big explosive action movie.

Nancy Tapia:  Who of the cast did you work the closest with?

Alan Ng: Jason Statham, Iko Uwais and Tony Jaa.

Nancy Tapia:  Jason Stantham and Tony Jaa have my favorite action scenes. How involved were you in working them? It was like watching a fight silhouette that looked awesome!

Alan Ng: Thank you. I created all their fight scenes. When Jason and Tony were fighting, their timing and execution was so smooth and perfect, they were so in sync that they really made it feel like a dance.

Nancy Tapia:  I’ve always wondered if stunts are some sort of balance between flexibility and/or strength. Do either factors apply?

Alan Ng: It’s definitely good to have both. For example, you’ve got to have strength and power in the movements to make them look good, but if you have no flexibility and can’t kick then you are either going to hurt someone or will not be able to do the stunt. So having both flexibility and strength are important but they are things that can always be improved on from more training.

Nancy Tapia:  You’ve been involved in so many kick ass projects. So, does the job get any easier or does it get more challenging?

Alan Ng: The experience definitely helps, but it’s more challenging as you’ve got to come up with new and different action designs to create things that have not been done before.

Nancy Tapia:  What does it mean to be a part of the 8th generation of Jackie Chan stunt team?

Alan Ng: I’m 5th generation haha. It’s a very big achievement, every aspiring stunt performer wants to grow up to be a part of Jackie Chan’s stunt team. It’s a dream come true and such an honor to represent the team. I feel like I’m a part of a big family and always learning new things from the legend Jackie Chan.

Nancy Tapia:  Any chance you can tell me who is your favorite Expendable? :o)

Alan Ng: That’s a very hard one as they are all great! Jason, Tony Jaa, Stallone, Megan, the whole team are incredible. That’s why they are all such a great fit for Expendables roles.

Nancy Tapia:  With 50 Cent in the film I have to ask, what is your favorite 50 Cent song? And do you dance to it?

Alan Ng: In Da club

Nancy Tapia:  Thank you so much for your time!
