Alfred Molina’s Version of Doc Ock Is The Best Villain From The Spider-verse

Spider-Man: No Way Home Controversial Post-Credit Scene SPOILERS | Barside Buzz

News of Alfred Molina returning as Doctor Octopus would have been impossible to believe any other year.  But since this is 2020 it makes absolute sense.  Rumblings of Molina reprising the role of Doc Ock had been swirling around and now Variety is confirming the actor will join the cast of the upcoming Spider-Man movie.  Molina first portrayed Dr. Otto Octavius in the 2004 Spider-Man 2 which starred Tobey Maguire.

Molina is not the only other villain that is set to come back from the Spider-verse. Rumors have been spreading that Jamie Foxx will appear as Electro, the villain from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which saw Andrew Garfield star as the web slinger.

Although the premise behind the upcoming Spider-Man film has been released, Benedict Cumberbatch will be making an appearance as Doctor Strange this news has people speculating that the MCU will be opening a multi-verse like we saw in the animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

With the possibilities of all characters available for the upcoming movie it does make sense to get Molina to come back as Doctor Octopus.  While all the Spider-Man films have been very profitable none of them have been able to replicate the success of Spider-Man 2.  Most fans of the movies consider Alfred Molina’s version of Doc Ock as the best villain of all.  It seems that the upcoming film will also see Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield join Tom Holland as their versions of Spider-Man to combat all the villains.

Tom Holland is the third actor to wear the spider suit in the Sony film franchise, Tobey Maguire was the first actor to bring Spider-Man to the big screen when he teamed up with Sam Raimi to make three films together. After Maguire hung up the suit Andrew Garfield was next to be Spider-Man in a soft reboot of the comic book character.  He would go on to make two films with Marc Webb before Sony was able to make a blockbuster deal with Disney to bring the web-slinger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With guidance from Kevin Feige and Disney, Director Jon Watts and Tom Holland have made two very successful Spider-Man films that saw cameo appearances from Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.  The movies has opened the opportunity for this version of Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

Sony plans to release the film on Dec. 17, 2021.
