Alita: Battle Angel – Alita Kicks Cyborg Ass In New Clip

Our industry is packed to the brim with sequels of pre-existing properties, and every so often when we get an adaptation of properties that haven’t existed on the big screen before, it’s a big deal. Such is the case for Alita: Battle Angel and adaptation of the manga Gunnm, which was originally published as Battle Angel Alita in the U.S.

The film comes from producer James Cameron and is directed by Robert Rodriguez, and as such, you can rest assured that it comes with plenty of VFX to spare. Some may even be a bit nervous with how much of this movie will rely on it, as Alita’s eyes have been blown up to replicate the very eyes we see in manga. In a new clip, we get to see the VFX in action, and I have to say, it’s not so bad. While I think this film could have gone the R-rated route (the way it cuts away from Alita pounding that one guy’s head in is distracting), I feel these action scenes a lot more than I thought I would.

Below is the official synopsis for Alita: Battle Angel:

When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.
