Amazon Prime’s Lord Of The Rings Series Confirmed To Be Five Seasons

Middle-earth is headed to the small screen very soon. Despite the fact that we had a pretty amazing trilogy of films based on the novels, we’ll soon be getting an original series that taps into some of the lore not captured on the big screen (though it’s not quite clear how much overlap there will be in content, if any).

All we know is that the series will show events that precede Lord of the Rings — though I do wonder how they’ll justify that title if it’s not actually pulling from the trilogy of books, but that’s honestly just me being really nitpicky. Anyway, the network took to social media to confirm that this show will be five seasons long, along with an image of a map of Middle-earth, which you can check out below:

Additionally, they tweeted out this map, which allows you to explore the hand-written Tolkien map, though there don’t appear to be any further clues as to their intentions for the story, unfortunately. The only thing noted by a fan (via Deadline) is that this was drawn after War of Wrath since Beleriand isn’t on the map.

Rumor has it that this series will sport a $250 million budget in total, which means each season will have a budget of around $50 million. Admittedly, that’s not a whole lot, given the source material, but perhaps the scope of the story has increased since we last heard, so that budget may be out of date.
