Amazon’s Lord Of The Rings Show Gets A New Lead Star

Back last year it was revealed that Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings TV show had lost one of its lead actors when Will Poulter had to pull out for scheduling reasons. Since then we have been waiting on news of who would replace Poulter in this sure to be a massive franchise for Amazon.

Now Deadline is reporting that the wait is over and that Robert Aramayo has been cast in the role formerly given to Poulter. The role has been referred to as Beldor, though we are unsure if this is merely a production name, or the actual name the character will have in the show. Beldor is not a name from the Tolkien Legendarium, however details of the period this show will cover are less fleshed out than other periods of Tolkien’s work, so many new characters will have to be created.

In November Amazon pushed ahead with an early Season 2 renewal of the show and this has led to Season 1 taking a four to five-month hiatus after filming the first few episodes of Season 1, so that the writers have time to begin work on the second Season. This change was announced around the same time as Poulter’s move away from the franchise, and it is suspected that it could have had an impact on the scheduling issues that reportedly forced Poulter to leave.

Aramayo is probably going to be most familiar to fans of Game of Thrones where he played a small but important role as the young Ned Stark, who ‘rescued’ his sister and promised to take care of her son Aegon aka Jon Snow. You can see Aramayo in that role in the header image above.

A more recognizable character to fans was cast recently, with Variety reporting the role of Galadriel going to actress Morfydd Clark. Clark was most recently was seen in a small role on the joint BBC/HBO venture His Dark Materials which finished its first season run a few weeks ago. I would expect we are going to hear more and more casting news for this show over the next few months as production ramps up. The one I can’t wait to find out about is Sauron, who absolutely would be played by a real actor in period this show will be set.
