We all know how Anakin Skywalker feels about sand, based on his quote from Attack of the Clones:
“I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.”
Yes, it truly does get everywhere, especially when you live on a planet with nothing but sand. Tatoonine is so rife with it that its indigenous race, the Tuskin Raiders, are commonly referred to as Sand People. And we all know that even a short trip to the beach can leave sand in your shoes, and even your bed, for days (been there…).
So how does Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, feel about sand? I’m glad you asked! At Star Wars Celebration this weekend, he was asked his own opinion on sand and gave this similar response:
“Well you know, it’s not very smooth. It doesn’t really stay in one place, so I’m not such a big fan of it myself, although if it leads to the water I can tolerate it. But Anakin came from a desert planet so I understood his contempt for it.”
Christensen’s not a fan of sand either, apparently. Then again, if you spent weeks in the desert shooting a film, surrounded by sand, it may ruin your future trips to the beach too. At least Christensen brings more passion to his dislike of sand than the emotionless Anakin Skywalker, who sort of spits out the line with little to no conviction. Oh wait… they’re the same guy! I guess he just hates it more now.
What are your thoughts on sand? Yes, sand. Does it get everywhere? We want to know in the comments section below!
