The pair once known as KVWN Channel 4 News anchors Ron Burgundy and Brian Fantana will once again share the screen together. Anchorman pals Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd will be starring in and executive producing the limited series The Shrink Next Door. The show is based on the 2019 podcast. The studio behind the production, Media Rights Capital, plans to shop the production to premium cable networks and streaming services.
The Hollywood Reporter provided a brief synopsis on the series:
Based on the podcast, which was inspired by true events, The Shrink Next Door follows the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell). During the course of their relationship, the all-too-charming Ike slowly takes over Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s home and assuming control of his family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative one filled with manipulation, power grabs and dysfunction at its finest.

Michael Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer, The Big Sick) will be directing and executive producing the series. Gloria Pritchett penned the pilot, and you may recognize her work for HBO’s Ferrell-Adam McKay produced Succession.
This series comes as both Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd have enjoyed some recent successes at their respective crafts. Rudd is fresh off a Golden Globe nomination for his Netflix series Living With Myself, while Ferrell has had his hand in the production of both HBO’s Succession and Netflix’s Dead To Me. With these two teamed up again, and a dark comedy angle as there project, these two are bound to present us with another hit.
