Robert Zemeckis’ latest film Welcome to Marwen may not have been a huge hit with critics, but that hasn’t stopped the Back to the Future helmer from moving on to another beloved property — this time from author Roald Dahl. Dahl has penned countless classic novels for kids, and Zemeckis will be adapting The Witches for one of his upcoming pictures.
Now, that film has a star, as Variety reports. According to the outlet, Ocean’s 8‘s Anne Hathaway has just signed on to star in the flick. The actress was apparently picking between this film and Sesame Street, which were in the scheduling process. While it’s not clear if she’ll be able to star in Sesame Street as well, she WILL be in this movie as the Grand High Witch.

Just in case you haven’t read or heard of the novel, here’s the premise from Amazon:
“This is not a fairy tale. This is about real witches.
Grandmamma loves to tell about witches. Real witches are the most dangerous of all living creatures on earth. There’s nothing they hate so much as children, and they work all kinds of terrifying spells to get rid of them. Her grandson listens closely to Grandmamma’s stories—but nothing can prepare him for the day he comes face-to-face with The Grand High Witch herself!”
