Lately there was a report in trades of discussions around a Chris Evans MCU return. Usually when these things come from the trades that also means it came from some PR people for the Studio. However, Marvel has said nothing and Evans himself has denied it by tweeting “news to me?”. Though, one does wonder whether later on Evans will be all, “yeah I had to lie there sorry.”
All this speculating does bring into question what the point of bringing Evans back would be? If you want to see some of my ideas for an Evans partial return that would not ruin Cap’s ending, take a look at the related section below. But it’s understandable that fans are confused given the current trajectory that Sam Wilson is on. So what does Anthony Mackie who plays Sam (new Captain America) think of these Chris Evans MCU return rumors?
Mackie recently appears on the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast. As far as Mackie says, he’d be happy to welcome Evans back in anytime.
“You know, I’ve heard that. Like, I’ve seen that, and, look, Chris is my boy, so if they’re getting the band back together, I’ll be very happy with that.”
Unless Mackie is playing coy, it would tell me he is not aware of any current plans to bring Evans back. This would also indicate to me that there is no plans to have Evans return as the current Captain America. Again if looking for ways Evans could return without impacting Wilson becoming Cap, check the related section. If there are any options I missed fell free to fill in the blanks.
For me, Sam Wilson will be Captain America going forward in the MCU. That transition, I feel will happen in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. However, that does not mean we cannot get stories with Steve Rogers set within different timelines, or even Universes. Would you be up for a Chris Evans MCU return? As always, leave any thoughts below.
