Aquaman hasn’t even hit theaters stateside, and it’s already doing pretty darn well for itself. According to a new report from Forbes, the superhero standalone film has just crossed over a huge milestone: $200 million. And we’re not talking $200 million total or even $200 million in the U.S. We’re talking about $200 million in China.
This puts the film’s total at $280 million worldwide, with the possibility of hitting $300 million in the next couple days — again, not even including North America. If you compare the business Justice League did last year in China, it’s night and day, as the superhero team-up flick only took in just over $100 million there. When all said and done, it may gross $275 million to $300 million, making it one of the best Hollywood exports ever.

This could not have come at a more important time. As stated above, the film’s predecessor didn’t really do too well, so the studio was relying on this one to really turn the tide for the DC Extended Universe and prove that it could make a crowd-pleasing film outside of Wonder Woman.
Will this solid performance bleed over into the United States? Warner Bros. undoubtedly hopes so, but if patterns are any indicator (in terms of critical reception), we can at least expect this one to do okay — though competition in theaters is particularly stiff.
