In 1986, she directed Whoopi Goldberg in Jumpin’ Jack Flash. She then directed Tom Hanks in his breakout hit, 1988’s Big, where Hanks plays a teenage boy who awakens in the body of an adult man. Two years later, she directed Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams in the Oscar-nominated biographical drama Awakenings, which Williams had called his performance in the film his favorite role. Marshall would go on to once again team up with Hanks, add Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell and Madonna to the mix, and tell the story of the first women’s baseball league in the hit film A League Of Their Own.
