Armor Wars Is Now A Movie Instead Of A Disney+ Show

According to the latest Barside Buzz around Armor Wars, it seems Marvel wants a director soon and a Justin Hammer return

Armor Wars is now a movie instead of a Disney+ show! That’s the news that broke through THR yesterday and now the project will be retooled as a feature instead of a long form TV series. Don Cheadle will still star, Yassir Lester will still be head writer. As yet no directors were attached to the series, so now the hunt is on for a film director. Marvel Studios had originally planned for the show to begin filming next year. However with the current retooling process of the script, who knows if that will slip to later in the year?

Sources say the studio was committed in getting the story told the right way and in that process realized that a feature was better suited for the project. Like all Marvel movies, it is intended for a theatrical release.

Armor Wars was announced initially quite some time ago. However when Marvel Studios revealed their partial Phase 5 and Phase 6 slates, fans noticed the absence of Armor Wars. Though after this, we were assured by all involved that Armor Wars was still taking place. I guess perhaps now we know one of the reasons for the delay was getting this decision right. There’s going to be a lot less story and less characters that can be involved in a feature as opposed to a show.

Marvel had been eyeing a 2023 start of production on the series, but the few people who were gearing up for that were notified Thursday of the change of direction. No directors had been officially attached and it is unclear when an Armor Wars feature would pop on Marvel’s timeline of its phases of movies and Disney+ series.

Therefore we have no idea when Armor Wars will begin filming, and no clue where it will land in either phase 5 or 6? Armor Wars title comes from a famed and celebrated comic run. However as always with the MCU it can be tricky to look for too much inspiration in the comics. Whilst Marvel Studios are always inspired by the comics, the stories are usually unique to the MCU. One of the major changes to the MCU Armor Wars is the absence of Tony Stark. However given the title, one wonders whether Stark’s legacy will still be a major theme here? Or, whether Riri Williams’ Ironheart will be involved instead?

What do you think of the news Armor Wars is now a movie instead of a Disney+ show? As always, leave any thoughts below in the usual spot.
