I’m struggling to get my head around this one, so bear with me. The buzz is that Harrison Ford is top choice to play General Ross in Thunderbolts for Marvel Studios. As you likely know, Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross was played in the MCU by the late William Hurt. I personally just thought they’d use the name and not recast that role. However whilst not all insiders agree with the Ford story, the fact Marvel is recasting the role of Ross seems consistent.

BREAKING via THE HOT MIC podcast: Though Marvel insiders DENY he has been cast in the movie at this time, multiple sources indicate that HARRISON FORD either is or was the studio's top choice to star in THUNDERBOLTS as the General himself. It's unclear if he already passed…

Apparently there are rumors that Ford has already signed on, and some saying that though Ford was a candidate, he has already passed on the opportunity. As to what the actual situation is, your guess is as good as mine? Personally I’ll accept this one when I see the hype start to build from more sources. Right now there is enough counter claims, that I am dubious. However, let’s just pretend for a moment that this is 100% happening, what would we think? Don’t get me wrong, Ford might be my favorite movie actor of all time. However does that mean I see him as Ross going forward? Honestly, I don’t.

Whilst Ross’s role in Thunderbolts might be understandably larger than previously, his only large role so far was in The Incredible Hulk played by Hurt. Now perhaps Hurt’s health put limitations on his appearances previously, I have no idea? I would love to see Ford in the MCU. However I also know that Ford, much as he loves a pay check, also likes to pick and choose his projects. Let’s face it, Ford really doesn’t need he money. He’s probably still trying to hide the cash Disney delivered at his door for that Rise of Skywalker appearance. I guess I’m therefore a little dubious that at his age (80) Ford would sign up for multiple projects. Perhaps Thunderbolts is being sold to him as a one off? If so, I feel that’s much more likely to entice him in.
Still, all this is speculation until we hear something a little more solid. But that’s the Barside Buzz for this weekend anyway.
What do you think of the rumor Harrison Ford is top choice to play General Ross in Thunderbolts for Marvel Studios? Thoughts below, as always.
