Arnold Schwarzenegger Says The New Terminator Will Have A Simpler Plot

Not long ago word came round that fans would receive another installment in to the Terminator franchise. After mixed reactions to 2015’s Terminator Genisys, it is hoped the upcoming film can return the franchise to its former iconic glory. T-800 himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, recently spoke to UK Business Insider and talked about why the upcoming Terminator film will be different than the last effort, Terminator Genisys:

“I think [James] Cameron and Tim [Miller] came up with a concept where they can continue on with the T-800 but make a whole new movie. What they are doing now with this one is basically to just take a few very basic characters, like Linda Hamilton’s character and my character, and dismiss everything else. Just move away from all these rules of the timeline and other characters.”

While the Terminator franchise is iconic, the timelines may be confusing to some fans. With this simpler approach, and a focus on the characters that made the franchise what it is, it will hopefully make for a more cohesive and better overall film. Many sci-fi films take on complex plots and themes, and it works fine, but as far as sequels to complex films, sometimes simplicity is the best way to go, complexity on top on more complexity can get messy really fast, just look at the two sequels to The Matrix.

The next film in the Terminator franchise has plans to arrive in theaters in 2019.
