Arrow Season 7 Premiere To Push Limits Of Network TV, Return To Season 1 Feel

I have a love-hate relationship with Arrow. I love the first season and a half and hated everything beyond that. Even when I checked back in around Season 4, a lot of the things I loved about the show seemed to be thrown out the window. Sure, it’s the darker side of the Arrowverse, but its dealing with the stranger, supernatural elements really took its toll on that tone. Also, as it went on, the fight choreography took a bit of a nosedive, especially during crossover episodes.

If we’re to believe the words of James Bamford, stunt coordinator for the show, I could be in luck for the coming Season 7 premiere.

“In the premiere you will find some elements with the Season 1 feel, but you will find other elements that is new, uncharted territory.”

But that isn’t all, it also looks like the show has hit a few bumps along the way in the form of censors.

“[Showrunner Beth Schwartz] and I had a phone call with BNSP, which is our censors… a very lengthy phone call about a particular scene that we never had before. So we are really trying to push the limits on the show in the gritty factor. We are trying to go as far as you can go within the confines of our network and what is expected of us and what we can and can’t do. We are not on Netflix so we will never be able to X, Y, and Z, but we are damn sure going to try.”

So don’t expect the Green Arrow to smash anyone’s head with a door like a damn watermelon (not unlike one Wilson Fisk in Season 1 of Daredevil), but it looks like they’re still pushing things a bit, which is great. I’ve never liked the show for its violence, per se, but its ability to at least imply some real death and stakes is what really made it shine in that first season.
