Alex Ross is hands down one of the best artists in the comic book world. Recently, I have loved his cover work on Immortal Hulk over at Marvel. Also, Kingdom Come anyone? Over that years he has given us beautiful pieces of art depicting our favorite heroes from both DC and Marvel. Now the legendary artist has a bone to pick with DC Universe’s Stargirl series.

This issue is that the show used homages of his work without giving him any credit. The banners feature characters of the Justice Society of America including the Flash, Green Lantern, Hourman, Doctor Fate, and Wildcat. The artist took to Twitter and posted a side by side comparisons of his art with the series banners and said, “#nocredit given for their use in @stargirl_cw #swipe?”

Strange that DC would not credit Ross for his inspiration for the banners. Screen Rant reported that the team that worked on the banners in fact based their photos on Ross’ artwork but that none of his artwork was ever used in the show. What makes this even weirder is that Geoff Johns, the showrunner for the series, had collaborated with Ross on a Justice Society of America series.

It seems that they are well aware of their use of Ross’s artwork. I think it would be wise to correct this error and credit the artist in some way. After all it is because of Ross’ work that they were able to create that awesome imagery of the Justice Society of America on Stargirl.
Do you feel that he should receive credit for these banners? Let us know in the comment section below!
DC Universe’s Stargirl airs Mondays on DC Universe and Tuesdays on The CW at 8 pm ET/PT.
