Avengers 4: The Russos Hope To Finish The Film By March

Avengers: Infinity War can already be watched at home, and yet all eyes are pointed forward at the impending superhero team-up sequel, which will see the conclusion of the Thanos-centric storyline. What happens after the snap? Which heroes will ultimately live to see another day? All these questions and more will be answered in the next episode of The Marvel Cinematic Universe!

But how far along are the filmmakers in Avengers 4? We know that they filmed the movie almost back-to-back with Avengers: Infinity War and they entered post-production this past January. Apparently, the post needed on this film is no joke, because they still have quite a while until they’re done, Anthony Russo revealed to Deadline:

“We’ve worked on the edit all summer and we’re excited to finally get these missing pieces in the film and then we expect to be in post through the fall and winter. We hope to be done by March. It was so gratifying that in a movie with this scope and scale and that wide of an audience, that we were able to end with a gut punch and yet the audience stayed with us and found value and kept coming back. It’s a rare thing to find in commercial filmmaking and we know it had a lot to do with the the capital that’s been built up around these characters for the last ten years of Marvel filmmaking. The audience is so invested in these characters that they’re willing to stick with them even through the hard stuff. It has been out great pleasure as storytellers to take them through that hard stuff and have it be a cathartic and even entertaining experience at times.”

Talk about hard work! In most cases, from the start of production to release, Marvel has done well with around 11 to 13 months. The way things are going, they’ll be spending that much time and more just on post-production and reshoots. I think this will likely result in an all-around stronger film — at least that’s the hope.

Avengers 4 Is set to hit theaters in May 2019.
