By and large, I think us fans have mostly agreed that Avengers: Endgame was about as good as anyone could have expected. It brought a satisfying close to the Infinity Saga, made us shed a few tears, and gave us a number of fist-pumping moments, to boot. And that moment at the end when all the portals opened? An absolute classic. But that moment did raise some questions for some fans.
As we saw, Wong assisted Doctor Strange in bringing together all these superheroes for the final confrontation…but where has Wong been the whole movie? One fan asked Benedict Wong this very question at Denver Pop Culture Con, and the British actor gave a pretty hilarious and (likely very true) response.

“You know, he was there, obviously, if you’re a Doctor Strange fan, there are other dimensional forces. If he doesn’t protect the Sanctum, which he told you — why would he lie (laughs)? Also [Marvel Studios] probably knew I could handle Thanos, because all I would do is create a portal and chop off his hand. But Marvel knew how much this would make, and they were like, ‘we’ve gotta put Wong off to the side there, otherwise this movie will be 15 minutes long.’ And I came in with the cavalry. You’re welcome.”
Indeed, that portal moment was perhaps the greatest single moment in the entirety of the MCU, so I guess we can forgive Marvel Studios for not allowing either Wong or Strange from chopping off Thanos’ arms. But what do you think of Wong’s comments? Let us know your thoughts down below!
