Avengers: Endgame has been the biggest film in a long time and will be classed as insanely successful no matter what happens from here. However, it is so close now to catching Avatar, the current biggest film of all time that fans are wondering if the epic finale to the Infinity Saga can claim the top spot?
According to Box Office Mojo, Monday saw Endgame‘s lowest takings yet as the movie fell below the $1 million marker for the first time. Endgame managed $869,816 on Monday 3rd of June and to be fair, that’s not a bad take at all for a random Monday over five weeks after the initial release. This covers only the domestic takings for Endgame and whilst the movie has finished its run in the Chinese territories, it is still running across Europe and some other territories as well. So how far behind Avatar is Endgame?
At this point we are looking at roughly a $75 Million gap between Endgame and Avatar‘s total, and whilst it’s possible that Endgame could catch it eventually, it will be tight. The only people concerned about whether it does beat Avatar seem to be the fans, as I am sure Disney is quite happy considering they now also own the Avatar franchise and have sequels in production right now under director James Cameron.
Whilst I don’t think Endgame was as perfect as many fans do, I did enjoy it a bucket load more than Avatar, so personally, I’d like to see Endgame take the crown. I feel like Avatar made its money on the fact that to experience the film properly you had to go see it at the cinema. Endgame, on the other hand, might see some fans simply waiting for home release. We also know Endgame hits Disney + streaming in December and I have been reliably informed that a near perfect pirate copy has been available from nefarious places since around a week after the movie hit US theaters, that surely can’t have helped sales?

Ultimately over the next month, we will see Endgame‘s box office presence drop more and more as new films get released, will it make that final $75 Million it needs to topple Avatar? That remains to be seen, but it’s going to be tighter than two coats of tarmac between these two in the final tally I feel.
How many times have you seen Endgame at the theatre so far, do you hope it beats Avatar or are you not fussed either way? Share your thoughts in the usual spot below as always.
