As of 6:30 in the evening last night, Deadline had reported early estimates are showing Avengers: Infinity War has raked in $39 million Thursday night. If these numbers are accurate, with the added numbers from the west, this film’s debut could surpass all those in the MCU that came before it. As it stands, Avengers: Infinity War easily beats Avengers: Age Of Ultron ($27.6M) and puts it just behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($45M); Star Wars: The Force Awakens still holds the top spot ($57M).
Showtimes began at 7pm Thursday night, with some chains like AMC having special fan events which began as early as 6pm. In the foreign market, the film scored $39 million in its first day and is holding an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Avengers: Infinity War was bound to make this gigantic impact. Ten years of planning and with plots of most the films featuring an element that would lead to this epic chapter, along with an incredible marketing plan, Disney/Marvel has scored big. Moreover, whereas the previous films were directed at specific moviegoers (Iron Man fans, Captain America fans, Guardians of the Galaxy fans, Black Panther fans, etc.), this film contains the full roster of Marvel characters who have appeared in the past 18 films. Gigantic numbers were bound to form for what’s being touted as the end of the current path and the beginning of a new direction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Final numbers for Thursday should be out later this morning and will be updated on this site.
