According to the latest Barside Buzz, Avengers: Secret Wars will be a soft reboot for the MCU. The information comes from insider CWGST who claims that the big event movie at the end of the road we are currently on will reboot the MCU. Fans and those within the entertainment industry have pondered what happens at the end of the MCU. Does it just keep expanding and thus old characters stay dead, defeated. Or, do they reboot the universe and start again with new actors playing the roles?
I kinda always figured they’d just keep going until there’s nothing interesting left and then they’d have ran the superhero movie genre into the ground. Maybe reboot again with lower budgets after a hiatus.
Either way, here is what CWGST had to say.

Well, one thing I’d point out is that The Flash was not a soft reboot for the DCEU whatsoever. I think this was the intention at one point for sure. However, that didn’t happen. It’s highly likely we will never see Flash‘s new timeline resolved. Instead the DCEU went through a hard reboot and will start again as the DCU under James Gunn and Peter Safran.
That doesn’t mean the rest of the information is bad. I’m just pointing out we cannot use The Flash here as an example for what Marvel may do in a similar situation.
I do suspect we will see a brand new X-Men team in the MCU post-Secret Wars. However, my guess is we will also still have all the current characters who are willing to stay on and making profitable movies.
