A juicy little Spider-Man 3 rumor has made its way around the movie news world today. According to GeeksWorldWide, Alfred Molina is set to reprise his Doctor Octopus role from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 inthe third Spider-Man film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Their souce says Molina is a go, but could not confirm if this would be the same version of the villain as seen in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films. Spider-Man 2 is thought to be the best of the Raimi trilogy and many fans hold Molina as Doctor Octopus as the trilogy’s best villain.
GWW‘s source also states Molina has been filming scenes over the last couple of weeks. The outlets clarify that while their source had given them good information in the past, they do recommend a grain of salt, as their attempts to corroborate the rumor were unsuccessful. Now that doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t true. The Multiverse looms over the MCU. With the cast additions to Spider-Man 3 I am leaning toward this Doc Ock rumor will turn out to be true.
I’d say it’s safe to assume Doctor Strange asn’t just randomly thrown into the film and considering the title of the character’s upcoming sequel film, Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness well, things are beginning to add up. We know Jamie Foxx will return as Electro from the Andrew Garfield led Spidey films. And while he won’t be blue this time around, it appears he will be the same version of the character.
It appears that Marvel’s plan may be to bring in a villain from each set of previous Spider-Man films. Using it as a sort of bridge,. I really hope this is Marvel’s course of action. Because if it is, the respective Spideys likely won’t be far behind.
