For years, there’s been mainly talk of a future third installment in the Bad Boys franchise. Since the release of the first two films, in 1995 and 2003, respectively, there have been a number of stories saying a third film was on the way. In each case, the film never came to fruition. As of this year, with a new outline planned and a television spin-off featuring Gabrielle Union’s character from the second film, it seems the wheels are moving on a third outing for Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett and Will Smith’s Mike Lowrey.
In what was first planned to be a late summer production start, Bad Boys For Life will begin principal photography in Miami and Atlanta in February 2019. Omega Underground has reported that the production will take place during the same time as Margot Robbie will be working on her Birds Of Prey film for DC and Warner Bros., which starts up in January. This matters because once that film is done, Robbie and Smith will begin production on Suicide Squad 2. Therefore, fitting in Bad Boys For Life in that window works out well.
Omega Underground explains the plot to the film as such:
Marcus Burnett [Martin Lawrence] is a private eye after a falling out with Mike Lowrey [Will Smith]. Mike is going through a midlife crisis as a bachelor who finally wants to mature, all while dealing with a new young and cocky partner. Lowery and Burnett are brought together when an Albanian mercenary with a vendetta puts a death order on their heads.
The first two films were directed by Michael Bay, the first one being his debut film. Bad Boys For Life will be helmed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Snowfall), based on a script plotted by Joe Carnahan (The A-Team, Smokin’ Aces) and written by Anthony Tambakis (Warrior, Gringo). Jerry Bruckheimer will return as producer.
Bad Boys For Life is set to be released January 17th, 2020.
