Batman: The Long Halloween – The Acclaimed Comic Book Arc Will Be Adapted Into A Two-Part Animated Feature

The Batman gtakes inspiration from The Long Halloween

Batman has blown up the movie news world over the last few days. The long-awaited trailer for the character’s newest iteration dropped over the weekend, and I for one absolutely loved it. Now we receive news that the beloved and highly regarded Batman: The Long Halloween is set to be adapted into a two-part animated film.

Now, while I am not well-versed on the comics, I do know how much this story arc is treasured by fans. Part one will be released next summer 2021, and part two a few months later in the fall.

First published in 1996, the 13-issue comics arc Batman: The Long Halloween follows the early years of the Dark Knight as he hunts a villain known as The Holiday Killer, who kills people on major holidays. During his chase, Batman has run-ins with classic villains such as Joker, Catwoman, and Scarecrow. Given the similar setting, some think that Batman: The Long Halloween may have, at least in part, have influenced Matt Reeves’ upcoming live-action The Batman.

As I said above, I don’t have extensive knowledge of the comic books, however, I do know this story, and news of this adaptation does put a smile on my face. If DC knows one thing, it’s how to get Oscars for actors who play the Joker. If they know two things, the other is how to make awesome animated adaptations of their comic books. So this one has everything in place, and let’s hope it stays that way.
