Batwoman Reveals If Batman Has Killed And Joker’s Status In The Arrowverse

WARNING! SPOILER FOR BATWOMAN EPISODE, A NARROW ESCAPE.

The CW may not be able to use Batman on anything Arrowverse, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t talk about him and his past it set universe. For many years shows like Arrow, The Flash, and others have been able to mostly ignore the Dark Knight and Gotham. But that became impossible with the addition of Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane aka Batwoman.

Ever since The CW event Elseworlds, we have seen many Easter eggs from the Batman universe. These include the Bat-signal, Wayne Tower, Arkham Asylum, Nora Fries, and others. We have also been told that Batman has mysteriously disappeared. Now deep in the first season, we have a major revelation about something the caped crusader did to his arch-nemesis.

This came in the 17th episode of Batwoman titled, A Narrow Escape. During the episode, Kate helps Luke, played by Camrus Johnson, not kill the man who murdered his father. She does this by revealing that she killed Dr. August Cartwright, played by John Emmet Tracy. Also that because of this she had a hard time putting on the Bat-suit as she was well aware of Batman’s rule of not killing.

Luke then goes on to ask Kate, “Ever wonder why the Joker hasn’t reared his head in five years? He’s not in Arkham, Kate. Both you and Bruce stared into the abyss.” The reason for Batman’s motivation to kill the Joker in the Arrowverse is not revealed. But whether an accident or not, the point is that Batman is responsible for Joker’s death.

I am fine with this revelation about the Clown Prince of Crime’s fate. Although in comics dead rarely often actually means dead, I think that this will help viewers with the notion that the Joker would ever show up on The CW series. It would be interesting down the line to learn a little more about how that happened. What do you think about this take on the fate of the Joker in the Arrowverse?
