Yeah, I know. Early reactions aren’t indicative of how a movie will ultimately get received. “Batman v Superman got good early reactions!” and all that jazz. Yup, I get it. None of us want to be misled and sometimes people can get swept up in the excitement of a premiere, ultimately leading to a better experience. And a lot of times, yes, that totally comes across in these early reactions. So, we’ve acknowledged the elephant in the room, and now we can move ahead.
Birds of Prey marks perhaps the most interesting film in the DC Extended Universe to date. It features a female-centric team, an R rating, and a ridiculously, bizarre and goofy style and tone. In short, there’s really nothing else like it out there. But unique doesn’t always mean good. Here’s what some folks who had a chance to see the film are saying via social media. Keep in mind that the embargo for the film doesn’t lift until next Wednesday.

Just got out of the #BirdsofPrey premiere here in London, and folks – #BOP is a bop! Badass, hilarious, with some killer twists and an emotional Colin Powell cameo that actually grows into a full-on supporting role. Best DC flick since The Dark Knight and I don’t say that lightly

#birdsofprey is fun! Probably the most (and best choreographed) fight scenes of any DC movie yet and another great turn by Margot Robbie. Ewan McGregor is a hilarious, scenery-chewing scene stealer as Black Mask. I also enjoyed the nonlinear approach to the story. pic.twitter.com/F3QZ9hXyDL

Just saw #BirdsofPrey and am happy to report that it's my favorite modern DC movie yet. Like Shazam, it carves its own path with totally unique aesthetic, action, and tone. Margot, Ewan and all the rest are 100% fantabulous. Why aren't there more roller skate action scenes?? pic.twitter.com/BDipKiB0qU

#BirdsOfPrey: winning characters, above-average action, and a killer soundtrack hampered by uneven tone and pacing. The girls at their best together, and they're not together enough. Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Huntress is the not-so-secret MVP. 💕

#BirdsofPrey is delightfully unassuming and unconcerned with its place in a larger context. It's a bonkers bananas crime comedy and a genuine party movie. Everyone is having a blast but Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Huntress like a supporting character from THE TICK. It rocks. pic.twitter.com/7MRMKkZ0oi

So, while it’s not a perfect movie, it does seem like a crowdpleaser. More than any other DC movie to date, it does seem like the kind of flick you can just hop into, have a good time, and hop out.
Also a fun side note is a comment from one person who pointed out the importance of this movie being fronted by a female director.
Sidenote: There's a tiny moment in #BirdsofPrey that illustrates exactly why women should write and direct women, because it was so every day real that no guy would ever have thought to have written unless he'd had one of the women in his life tell him to put it in.

I’m interested to see what that moment is, or if I’d even recognize it. What do you think? Does any of this make you more excited? Let us know your thoughts down below!
