Birds Of Prey Trailer Is Wacky, Weird, And Emotional

I’ve long been a defender of the films in the DC Extended Universe. I still think Batman v Superman is a much better movie than was given credit, and while Suicide Squad was a trainwreck of a movie, I think it did a lot of favors in terms of the characterizations of some of their baddies — including one Harley Quinn, who is set to return in the new Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

We’ve reported on the odd amount of drama surrounding the film’s quality. We’ve heard from a source that the film is weird and sloppy, but based on all we’ve seen thus far, I couldn’t help but appreciate the weirdness it sought to bring into the world.

This continues in the first trailer for the film, which you can check out below!

Admittedly, the trailer is a bit more serious than I anticipated, and at the forefront of it all is the huge emotional upheaval she’s going through on the heels of her breakup with the Joker. It’s clear there’s a real emotional arc going on here with this movie, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens when she finds a group of friends she can count on.

No, this isn’t exactly a Birds of Prey film, in spite of what the title says, but I’m interested nonetheless. It looks odd. It looks bold. It looks…indie. And I hope it’s good.

But I’ve been burned before.
