Black Adam: Producer Gives Update On The Dwayne Johnson Led DC Movie

It seems like it’s been forever since we first found out that The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson was going to be playing Black Adam for DC. First we thought it would be as a part of Shazam, and then we found out Black Adam was getting his own movie. However since then, all we’ve heard from this movie is that it is coming, eventually. So far Black Adam does not appear to be a part of the upcoming slate of DC movies over the next couple years, so is it actually going to happen?

CinemaBlend caught up with Hiram Garcia, who collaborates on all Johnson’s movies, and asked the producer about the work director Jaume Collet-Serra was doing on Black Adam?

“Jaume is a real talent. He is one of my favorite directors I’ve ever worked with. Not only is he talented, he’s an unbelievable collaborator. He’s an amazing visionary. And what we have in store with Black Adam and for the fans, I am so excited inside. Inside, I take pride as being a fan boy. I started as a fan boy before I became a producer, so I hold onto that DNA. His vision for what we want to do with Black Adam is fantastic. So, that deal’s almost closed. He’s ready to go, and I think the fans are going to be really happy.”

Juame Collet-Serra was also director on Johnson’s Jungle Cruise, so DC will be hoping the relationship between the pair pays off in Black Adam. However, it sounds like negotiations are still going back and forth a little here and the shoot date is not locked down as yet. It does seem from the outside looking in that DC made an arrangement with Johnson for the role long before they had any idea of what the story would be, and where it would fit in with Shazam?

I would definitely be interested in seeing Johnson take on an antihero role like Black Adam. For me Johnson’s films just feel like Dwayne Johnson vehicles, playing to his strengths and not exploring him as an actor as much as just a big name that brings in audiences. A role like Black Adam would be very different to the cheeky, buff hero we see in every other movie he appears in. I’d like to see a darker tone of movie here for sure and ease up on the normally high levels of comedy in Johnson’s movies.

But when do I ever get what I want?

What do you think of Garcia’s comments on the Black Adam progress, are you hoping to see Black Adam sooner rather than later? Smell what I’m, erm cooking, in the usual spot below.
