Black Knight’s Suit To Be CGI In Eternals | LRM’s Barside Buzz

The latest Barside Buzz offers some Blade plot details which say we'll get the Ebony Blade, but no Black Knight outside of a post credit scene.

Black Knight’s suit to be CGI in Eternals? Dane Whitman is thought to be along with Sersi the main lead of Eternals. However, the part of Black Knight was cast (Kit Harington) far later than all the other key roles. Perhaps that was a case of allowing Harrington time after finishing Season 8 of Game of Thrones? Either way, Dane Whitman aka Black Knight is expected to be a big player in the MCU and the Avengers going forward.

Now it seems like Whitman will have something in common with Iron Man. The latest rumor doing the rounds, from two different sources is that Black Knight’s costume will be completed in CGI in post-production. This is not something new for the MCU. Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther and others have all had CGI suits, or partially CGI suits. The rumors come from both Charles Murphy and Daniel Richtman (via MCU Direct) who both claim they have received word on this from their sources in Marvel. Check out Murphy’s tweet below, which also links the MCU Direct article within.

Any footage we have seen so far of Harington in character has been wearing modern day clothing, not superhero attire. It will be interesting to see what Whitman’s Black knight look will be like in live-action. I always presumed his outfit would be more Game of Thrones than Iron Man, given the history of Whitman in the comics. However, I do think this will be a very different version of the Black Knight character.

Black Knight's suit to be CGI in Eternals

Far as I know (limited Eternals knowledge), Whitman was not particularly involved with the Eternals much in the comics? Hell, I had never really heard of Eternals from the comics, but I do remember Black Knight as an Avenger. Since Whitman’s origin seems more tied up with the technologically advanced Eternals, I am starting to think Black Knight might have a more tech-based suit. Marvel has done a great job in the past with having partial costumes, which ‘tech up’ with some CGI work. Iron Man, Black Panther and Spider-Man are great examples of how this can work well.

I wonder what kind of role Whitman will serve when he inevitably joins the new Avengers team? If Black Panther is the new Tony Stark, Sam is the new Cap, maybe Whitman is the new overpowered Thor type character? I’m definitely keen to see what Harington can do away from Westeros. Harington’s choices outside of Thrones, whilst limited, haven’t been well chosen till now. This is the MCU though, so Harington has hit the big time like Hemsworth before him. Let’s hope we become as invested in Dane Whitman, as we fans have in Steve Rogers or Thor?

What do you think of the rumor of Black Knight’s suit to be CGI in Eternals? What do you want to see from Whitman going forward? Leave your thoughts below as always.
