Marvel Studios Is Taking Pitches For Young Avengers | LRM’s Barside Buzz

Marvel rumors roundup as according the Barside Buzz we have a Hulk movie, a Young Avengers movie and the next phase will be the Mutant Saga.

If the rumor is true, it hardly seems surprising that Marvel Studios is taking pitches for Young Avengers. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has previously said they welcome pitches for all their characters currently still available. We have also heard rumors in the past that Marvel is actively looking to develop a Young Avengers movie.

It could be argued that the seeds have already been sowed for Young Avengers in the MCU. Hawkeye is supposedly set to feature the debut of Kate Bishop, perhaps with her taking on the Hawkeye mantle. We also have an older Cassie Lang to consider now, due to the five-year gap before Endgame. It makes sense that Florence Pugh is being lined up as a Black Widow replacement, though she may be too old for a Young Avengers movie? There is always the outside chance of Morgan Stark taking on her father’s legacy as well. Though, I would say that Morgan is probably a little too young at this time for potential superhero journey though.

There are certainly many other possible characters who could make up a Young Avengers team. Peter Parker is still young enough and there are rumors that WandaVision could introduce Speed and Wiccan. I’m not completely sold on the idea of Young Avengers, but I’ll get to that after the source. According to scooper Thomas Polito of TheGWW, Marvel is taking pitches for Young Avengers. Check it out.

Polito has about as good a hit rate with scoops as any other scooper out there. It’s never 100%, so anyone above a 60/40 hit rate on scoops I consider worth reporting on. As I said above, this is also not the first rumor we have heard about Young Avengers. Perhaps things have simply moved one step forward over at Marvel studios with this idea? I also have to say, that Young Avengers doesn’t immediately excite me as a fan.

Young Avengers Could Be Risky

pitches for Young Avengers

What I loved about the Avengers movies was the team dynamic. This team dynamic comes from characters having their own motivations and history. The Avengers movies have so far felt to me like important enough events to bring these characters together as a team. In fact, I think this is where the DC movies didn’t work as well for me. When Cyborg and Flash show up in Justice League, I really don’t know them. Even Batman hadn’t had his own history in that universe, and neither did Wonder Woman by that point. My worry is that Marvel makes a film that brings these kids together as a team before we get to know them as individuals.

However, I could be very wrong here, and I hope I am. If Young Avengers is going to begin by focusing on the likes of Kate Bishop, Peter Parker, and Cassie Lang, then it may well avoid my issue altogether. We expect that Kate Bishop will be established in Hawkeye, so perhaps Cassie Lang will take a bigger role in Ant-Man 3. Peter Parker has already been around enough that he is a full Avenger, but I could also see him leading a younger team for a movie.

If Wiccan and Speed are introduced in WandaVision and are still around after it’s done, then you have a core team right there. It’s perfectly acceptable to introduce one brand new character within the movie itself, especially if the movie revolves around that character. What about some threat to Morgan Stark in another seven years into the MCU timeline. Parker, with his connection to Tony could be the key to bringing in the others.

What I would not like to see, is a Young Avengers movie that aims itself at the teenager and lower demographic. Marvel Studios have made their brand about being for the whole family. I rarely find YA (Young Adult) focussed stories to be enjoyable as an adult. Honestly, I didn’t even like these kinds of stories when I was a young adult myself. Enjoying stories about young adults or teenagers is fine, but when written for adults, like His Dark Materials. I despise when authors, writers, storytellers dumb a narrative down for kids, we should give them more credit.

A Young Avengers could work, but there are risks that remain for me. What do you think of this rumor anyway? Happy Marvel is taking pitches for Young Avengers? What is your pitch for this movie? Let us know what you think in the usual place below.
