Black Panther: Wakanda Forever casts Michaela Coel as reported by Variety. Production is ongoing on Wakanda Forever the sequel to the massive Black Panther movie. Details on Wakanda Forever are being kept under wraps, but it does look like the plot will involve Atlantis, and Namor played by Tenoch Huerta.
Coel joins and ever expanding ensemble cast in Ryan Coogler’s sequel. As yet Cole’s role is unknown, but in such a huge cast it could potentially be any number of new characters. Coel certainly has the look to play a new Dora Milaje, but realistically at this point she could be anyone. Especially in such and expanding Wakandan culture (Disney + Series announced also). Coel hit the scene with a bang in HBO Max’s I May Destroy You, receiving Emmy nominations in the process. As a star on the rise, Cole is perfect to being high on Marvel’s talent radar.

Michaela Coel actually featured briefly in Star Wars: The Last Jedi it seems, though having only watched the movie twice (that was enough), I can’t place her myself. Maybe someone who liked that movie will recall the image above? Sorry the quality isn’t amazing by the way.
Clearly at this point Coel wasn’t an up and coming star, her turn in I May Destroy You is what has catapulted her forward. It’s possible Coel could have a sizeable role in the Black Panther sequel, and perhaps a role that will be recurring in the MCU? Pure speculation on my part, but with so much industry buzz around her, I cannot see Coel signing on to play Wakandan Throne guard number 3.
