I don’t think there was ever any doubt here, but M’Baku back in Wakanda Forever has been confirmed by actor Winston Duke. Duke played M’Baku, a previous challenger to T’Challa for the throne of Wakanda in Black Panther. In the film M’Baku’s people are vital to helping T’Challa defeat Killmonger and his revolution. Whereas in the comic books his character was always more of an antagonistic force to T’Challa.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is reportedly bringing back everyone from the first movie, so there is no surprise that M’Baku is back. Here is what Duke said recently when talking with Collider.
“It was very emotional to read the script. It was emotional to pack to go back to set. But we’re all a bit of a family now and we grieve together, and we’re making something really special.”
Of course I’m sure I do not need to explain why Duke is talking about grieving here. The one actor who will not be back for Wakanda Forever is the star of Black Panther Chadwick Boseman. Everyone involved keeps teasing a very special movie in Wakanda Forever. Though, I wonder if Wakanda Forever really can survive the loss of Boseman, and remain a good standalone Marvel movie. I’m willing to give them a bit of leeway on this one, but teasing about how special the script is is adding quite the hype.
Rumors abound that one of the central plots of the movie will be a conflict between Wakanda and Atlantis, led by Namor. Whilst there is no confirmation of this, I tend to think these rumors are on the level. Normally I’d be excited to see Namor appear in the MCU. I’m just not sure how we have a movie yet without the T’Challa character though? I hope I’m wrong.
