Today we ask the question, is Lashana Lynch in The Marvels? Now, on first take we fans would probably all assume no. That’s because we know from WandaVision that Maria Rambeau died sometime during the blip. This was of course something that her daughter Monica only found out when she was re-materialized by Hulk.
Prior to WandaVision though, ask any fan and I’m betting most would have assumed Lynch would actually return as Maria in what was then called Captain Marvel 2. However, as pointed out recently by Lizzie Hill of The Cosmic Circus, there is an IMDB listing for dialect coach Thom Jones that says he’s working with Lashana Lynch on The Marvels. Now, as the outlet points out, anyone can edit an IMDB listing, and there is often wrong information listed on there. Especially true is that some crazy folks will updated IMDB with false casting and plot rumors. However, a trained eye can spot something that just feels right and like Hill, I agree this is one of them.
The likeliest culprit for the update is either the coach himself Thom Jones, or his representatives. Therefore, whilst this is by no means a smoking gun, I again have to agree with Hill that there seems to be a chance Lynch will return as Maria Rambeau in The Marvels. If this is an error in some way, so be it, we shake our heads at IMDB and move on. However, if Lashana Lynch in The Marvels is true, then it actually makes a lot of sense.

We know that Monica will return in The Marvels and so will Carol Danvers (duh). Fans also know from watching WandaVision that there is something funky going on between Monica and Carol. We cannot quite put our finger on what happened but clearly in the years after Monica had grown, she fell out with Carol Danvers. It would therefore make a lot of sense for us to see whatever this conflict was replayed as a flashback. That means Maria would be needed. After all, Maria was alive during the snap, and dead by the time Monica returned. There was no time to have a fall out with Carol in between returning, and the beginning of WandaVision.
What that fall out was about? Your speculation is every bit as relevant as mine, so feel free to speculate away in the usual spot below.
Is Lashana Lynch in The Marvels? We can’t say yes, but I think we can say it’s looking likely.
