Black Widow: Rachel Weisz In Talks For Key Role

It hasn’t been thirty minutes since I’ve hit publish on the news that Stranger Things star David Harbour will be joining Scarlett Johansson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Black Widow, and we already have some more casting news that will likely make some film fans pretty happy. According to Variety, Oscar-nominated Rachel Weisz is in talks to join the movie in a key role, though what her role is is completely unknown.

Also of note is that the outlet was careful to point out that the deal has not been completed in spite of parties on both sides being very interested in making the deal happen. Weisz would be joining Johansson, Florence Pugh, and (assuming the deal goes through) David Harbour. On board to direct is Cate Shortland, helming from a script penned by Jac Schaeffer.

An interesting aside here is that the recent THR story that revealed Harbour’s interest in the film also gave a synopsis that clearly made this an origin story for Black Widow, but Variety states that the plot of the film is unknown, and that it’s unclear whether or not the movie will take place before or after Avengers: Endgame. Given all I’ve heard, I’m more inclined to believe Variety on this front — that we simply don’t know yet.
