Valiant Entertainment’s most important character at this time has to be Bloodshot because of the fact that it will be his story that will be featured in theaters everywhere on February 21st, directed by Dave Wilson and starring Vin Diesel as the nanite infused super solider.
This week was the release of the first issue of Bloodshot Rising Spirit written by Kevin Grevioux, Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson with artwork by Ken Lashley. This book looks into the history of Bloodshot, something that had not been done before. It seems like fans have responded well to the book as Valiant announced via a press release that this first issue is the highest selling Bloodshot comic of the modern era. According to the publisher, this book surpasses records for 2012’s Bloodshot #1, Bloodshot Reborn #1 and Bloodshot Salvation #1.
Publisher for Valiant Entertainment Fred Pierce commented on the success of Bloodshot saying that, “Bloodshot is one of the most popular heroes in Valiant’s celebrated roster of characters, and we’re ecstatic to see that he’s in more demand than ever. Our fantastic editors and creative team crafted a spectacular story, and our unstoppable Sales team worked hard to help make this the biggest release since we first revealed Bloodshot to a new generation of readers in 2012. With innovations like the Glass Variant Cover and the Nanite Prevention Kit, we’ve further cemented Valiant’s position as one of the most daring and groundbreaking companies in the comic industry.”
Bloodshot Rising Spirit gives new readers a great jumping on point to the character and long time readers a first time look at the popular superhero’s origin. With how much we had explored Bloodshot’s humanity in the long run Jeff Lemire had with the character in various arcs, it is great to take some time and get back explore what happened to lead to his creation.
