Sad news comes made the rounds yesterday as Bob Einstein passed away. If you’re around my age you may remember him as the stuntman Super Dave Osbourne, which used to air on Saturday afternoons if I remember correctly. He was also a big part of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, playing one of Larry’s good friends, and occasional enemy, Marty Funkhouser.
Below you can find several tweets from fellow Curb Your Enthusiasm cast members Cheryl Hines and Richard Lewis, along with other celebrities including Albert Brooks and Patton Oswalt.
I’m in shock.
I knew him forever. ♥️to his loved ones. His long career is hard to match. His role on #curbyourenthusiasm was excruciatingly brilliant! Our cast and crew will be devastated.
He was so loved. He told me how much he loved LD and Curb. RIP buddy. @HBO pic.twitter.com/G8f5PoffuF— Richard Lewis (@TheRichardLewis) January 2, 2019

R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein. A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever.

Whenever Bob Einstein was on Letterman as “Super Dave” it was un-missable. No one was more confident with the long payoff. A genius panel guest. Look how excited Dave is to have him on: https://t.co/WELSE0ZH8B

Larry David, who created and stars in Curb Your Enthusiasm had the following to say in a statement.
“Never have I seen an actor enjoy a role the way Bob did playing ‘Marty Funkhouser’ on Curb. It was an amazing, unforgettable experience knowing and working with him. There was no one like him, as he told us again and again. We’re all in a state of shock.”
Einstein’s Funkhouser character fit right in with the odd cast of characters on the show. Being central to some of the best episodes of the series. If you want to see a great scene of Einstein’s involving Jerry Seinfeld, search “Funkhouser Seinfeld” on YouTube. Heads up, while the subject matter is hilarious, it’s also extremely vulgar, you’ve been warned.
