Early today was the premiere launch of the eagerly awaited Disney+ streaming service from the Mouse House. Late last week, in the build-up to the launch of the service, Disney CEO Bob Iger sat down with CNBC’s Closing Bell host Julia Boorstin for an interview. Among the topics covered in the interview, the two delved into what content would be featured on Disney+, the future of Hulu, whether Disney is focused on competition, and what growth Iger foresees for the streaming service. At the end of the interview, Boorstin raised the topic of password sharing. She mentions that Netflix CEO Reed Hastings stated in the past that he wasn’t worried about password sharing and she was curious on where Iger stands on the issue. Iger does state that it is something they “they will be mindful of,” while also expecting “families to consume it.” He explains that the service does offer four live streams at once, but that they “will be watching it carefully.”

To be fair, Iger gave the typical response one would expect from a CEO releasing this much content on a new form of service. “Hey, we want you to watch our things” while also saying “hey, we have rules here.” The fact that the company is allowing four live streams at once does show that they understand there will be users who have a mother or brother who would like to take part in the joy, without actually saying that. Time will tell if Disney takes the past Hastings approach or if they feel the need to tighten it up.
