In a bit of an unexpected move, Emmy Award-winning Bob’s Burgers will be hitting the big screen, 20th Century Fox has announced. What’s more, it actually has a release date of July 17, 2020 — less than three years away!

Regarding the news, Bob’s Burgers show creator Loren Bouchard had the following to say:

“We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen. We want to thank Stacey and everyone at 20th Century Fox Film and Gary and Dana at FTG [Fox Television Group] for being such great supporters. We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”

Chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox Stacey Snider said:

“A Bob’s Burgers film fits perfectly with our initiative to redouble our family and animation efforts; we’re grateful to Dana and Gary for trusting us with this beloved property and we’re so excited to be working with Loren and his team.”

This is welcome news to fans of the show, which has maintained a high bar of quality ever since its premiere on FOX back in January of 2011. The series follows burger joint (the titular Bob’s Burgers), and the adventures that ensue for the Belcher family, who runs it. The series has expanded to include many characters in their seaside down, but despite that, it’s managed to keep its family-focused comedy throughout.
